Abstract

Entrepreneurial competences, intensively studied in the last dozen or so years, are classified as key competences in European education. Their importance in the process of educating young people has forced changes in European education systems. The development of entrepreneurial competences in the Polish education system by 2023 had taken place in upper secondary schools (high, technical and vocational) in the subject Basics of Entrepreneurship. Since September 1, 2023, Basics of Entrepreneurship has been eliminated and replaced by a new subject: Business and Management. The aim of the article is an assessment of changes in the competences shaped in the Polish education system by the elimination of Basics of Entrepreneurship and replacing it with the new subject. The research used a literature search in the field of competency concepts of entrepreneurship education and a comparative analysis of the current core curriculum of Business and Management and the former Basics of Entrepreneurship. The research has shown that the scope of changes in the competences taught is small, but in Polish schools after the reform, several of them have still not been developed. An additional concern is the fact that some sections of the educational content, particularly predisposed to their development, have been limited.

Agnieszka Świętek, Uniwersytet Komisji Edukacji Narodowej w Krakowie

Agnieszka Świętek, PhD in Geography, graduated from the Pedagogical University of Krakow with an MA degree in Geography, and a specialisation in entrepreneurship and spatial planning. Associate Professor at the Institute of Law, Economics and Administration of the University of the National Education Commission in Krakow. Her research interests focus on different themes:

 

educational services, competences, geographical and entrepreneurship education, in particular the process of starting a business and young people entering the labour market.

Danuta Piróg, Uniwersytet Komisji Edukacji Narodowej w Krakowie

Danuta Piróg, socio-economic geographer; associate professor at the National Education Commis- sion in Krakow; head of Department of Logistics, Geography of Services and Labour Market; chair of the Geographical Education Team in the Committee of Geographical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences; an expert of the Ministry of National Education in the field of school textbooks; certi- fied tutor. Her academic interests cover the following core areas: the transition of higher education graduates from academia to the labour market; real demand for geography experts; the specificity of teachers’ careers; processes which are shaping the current situation on educational labour market. She is an author and co-author of 160 papers. Her articles have been published in such journals as Tertiary Education and Management; Higher Education, Studies in Higher Education; Journal of Geography in Higher Education, Educational Studies, Higher Education Quarterly, Geographia Polonica, Quaestiones Geographicae, Miscellanea Geographica – Regional Studies and Development.

Kinga Bargieł, Uniwersytet Komisji Edukacji Narodowej w Krakowie

Kinga Bargieł, MSc, graduated geography from the Pedagogical University of Krakow. Currently serving as a research and teaching assistant at the Institute of Law, Economics and Administration of the University of the National Education Commission in Krakow. Research interests are concentrated on modern teaching methods, distance learning and critical incidents in education.

Piotr Cybul, Uniwersytet Komisji Edukacji Narodowej w Krakowie

Piotr Cybul, MSc, a graduate in Geography, at the University of the National Education Commis- sion, Krakow, Institute of Law, Economics and Administration. Since 2020, he has been working as a research and teaching assistant at the Department of Research in Geographical Education, now the Department of Logistics, Geography of Services and the Labor Market. His research interests relate to geographical education, with particular emphasis on the methodology of field work and the methodology of heritage tourism.
